Self care- why and how?

Self care is a much discussed topic these days but what is it and why should be doing it?


Self care is the term given to you basically. It is the art of looking after yourself, making sure your health and wellbeing is good.

Self care doesn't have to be rock science. t can be something simple just as soaking in the bath or getting an early night.

You could also be more adventurous and take the weekend off to have to yourself or go for a spa day, or for the guys, have a gaming weekend with the guys or go for a round of golf. Basically self care is just do whatever makes you feel good.


What are the benefits of self care?

  • Improves self esteem.

  • Relieves stress.

  • Reminds you of your self importance.

  • Helps clear a cluttered mind.

  • Helps your physical and mental health.

  • Gives you time to yourself

  • Makes you feel more positive!

  • Helps fight illness. If you are feeling under the weather or not well taking time for yourself can help you feel better.

  • Helps get you out of a bad mood.

  • Helps you to discover more about yourself.



How to self care

Now you know the what and the why, let's look at how?

Here are 20 simple ways you can practice self-care...

  • Take a bath

  • Take a shower

  • Watch your favourite TV show/ Movie

  • Go for a walk

  • Write down 5 things you love about yourself

  • Write down things in life you are grateful for

  • Buy yourself a treat

  • Mind dump- Write down anything on your mind...Things to do, people to call, things to buy...don't forgets.

  • Have your favourite meal

  • Learn to say no, put yourself first for a change. Your own health is more important.

  • Wear clothes that make you feel good.

  • Declutter your home or workspace- Clear space = clear mind.

  • Write yourself some goals to help you gain focus and motivation.

  • Try a new recipe for dinner.

  • Call your bestfriend or someone you love.

  • Look at photo albums.

  • Listen to your favourite songs.

  • Celebrate your achievements.

  • Turn off your phone and social media and have the evening/day to yourself.

  • Drink more water.

  • 3 positive things- Every day write down 3 good things that happened that day. It does not have to be anything huge. It could be as simple as 'I had a nice compliment about my outfit'
